During your stay at this wonderful destination, we will be taking you on a breathtaking marble excursion. Where you will see Artisans and Artists work closely together to create the most fascinating works of art out of marble blocks.
DETAILS: Introduction to Carrara’s marble caves and local sculpting studio: (Available exclusively through Bridgewater’s Idyllic Italy)
Accompanied by a highly skilled driver and English speaking guide, they will take you by 4×4 from the Albergo Pietrasanta to 900 meters above sea level.
You will travel down the road that’s used on a daily bases to transport the largest blocks of white Carrara marble that you’re ever likely to see! The drive albeit a little bumpy, is a perfect opportunity to witness the incredible panoramic views.
Once you’ve arrive at the quarry – we’re sure that the scenery will take your breath away! The coolness and transparency of the surrounding white marble feels peaceful and is a truly amazing view. Your guide will explain the culture of marble : excavating methods, cutting techniques, tools, and diamond wires etc.
Then, down through the steep descents to the very bottom of the mountain in a maze of tunnels that will drive you to the very heart of the marble quarry where marble is excavated from within.
Then it’s time for lunch! The Italian workers here eat a salami seasoned with salt, pepper and rosemary in a large marble tank and you, will also be tasting this delicious food with a slice of bread and a glass of great local wine.
After a relaxing lunch, it’s time to go back and spend the rest of the day visiting a marble studio. Here you’ll see how chisels, hammers and hands melt marble into shapes

We can also arrange sculpting courses upon request – designed to suit individual requirements: From a 1 week long course where the basics of marble sculpting are taught to 1 or 2 months’ courses where the techniques are studied and “points” are being taken. Course instructors are local artisans and highly qualified
